I wanted you to know what our Sloopy has been doing. Sloopy just passed her 7 mo. birthdate June 30. She was spayed June 3 and her weight then was 33.7 lbs. That went well. Our vet told us she was the most hairy dog he had ever seen. He assured us when she was spayed that she was not stuffed with fur but did have organs!
She has been to National K9 training for two extended stay programs and will soon return for a third. She is walking very nicely and goes on many walks which tires her out from having to think about what she is supposed to do. She has been learning how to ride in the car in either a "sit" or "down" position. She has also been learning to ride in my convertible bug which brings many comments from other drivers.
Sloopy attended three fireworks displays recently as practice being around crowds. She didn't care much for watching fireworks but did enjoy watching the people. She was very relaxed and enjoyed all the positive comments she received.
She loves her dog cousins, Louie, a lab, and Doodle, an Old Eng. Sheepdog. Louie has taught her some bad habits like searching for big sticks and chewing them. We were cutting big limbs off our neighbor's apple tree last week when Sloopy drug off a 6 ft. portion with limbs, leaves and apples. She later was not out in the yard and neither was her limb. She had drug it through the dog door into our house and was busy chewing away inside.
She likes to play ball and frisby although not catching but retrieving and returning. She has some indoor ball games she has invented that we play in the evenings. Sloopy has finally accepted being in her crate for short periods of time but she sleeps in our bedroom beside the bed. She trained us in her first week of being here as we couldn't take the all night barking.
She has been a lot of company and fun for us. She has really changed our life in a positive manner and made us more active. Everyone tells us she is going to be huge so we are trying to keep her reined in so she knows who's boss. I guess we are fooling ourselves really!
We hope your family is enjoying summer - JoAnn & Charlie Harpster
