January 2008 Healing Companion
I had Hodgkins Disease and thyroid cancer. I was interested in the Healing
Companions program because it involves giving back to the community. When I
was sick, I loved that animals came to visit us at the hospital. Volunteers with art
cart and music made my stay and treatments tolerable as it passed time and gave
me something else to think about. So when I heard of Healing Companions, I
wanted to give back too. I purchased my goldendoodle at a discounted rate with
the promise that I would train her to be active in the community. Once she gets out
of her puppy phase, I plan on getting her trained and certified as a Good Canine
Citizen. Then I plan to take her into hospitals and nursing homes to bond with
patients. My experience with Andrea was delightful! I got to meet all the puppies
and talked with Andrea for over an hour. She had just recently lost her husband
and felt that the puppies were a blessing in disguise, as they were keeping her
busy. I think its awesome that she is still continuing the Healing Companions
program. She has the strength and motivation to live out her and her husbands
dream. That is so awesome! Even though she has lost so much, she is willing to
give to others. That is commendable! Thanks Andrea for Healing Companions
Program. I hope to have Winnie trained soon so that she too can give to the
community.
