Hi Andrea, We just got back from a week at a cottage we rented in Canada. It was doodle heaven. The dogs got to swim, boat, and play with chipmunks every day. I think they were actually disappointed to come home. Riley did great on the 7 hour car ride. He snuggled with my daughter in the backseat. When he discovered the boat takes him across the lake to get icecream, he decided that the boat was a lot of fun. He likes to ride up in the front where he can feel the wind in his face. Both doodles were big hits everywhere we took them. When we took them into the big town to go shopping, there was always a crowd around them when one of us would come out of a store. Riley is still getting the hang of swimming. We put his lifejacket on him to give him more confidence. He seemed so proud of himself when he could race Rorie out into the deeper water and get to the toy first. There favorite activity was what we called "chippie hunting". The chipmunks are so tame that they will (if you let them) climb into your lap to get a peanut. My husband would leave peanuts right next to the gate we put across the porch. The chipmunk learned how to get the dogs to chase him to the other end of the porch. He would then sneak back under the porch while they were looking for him and eat the peanut. I was really amazed when one came right up to Riley's feet and he just looked down and watched it. All in all, it was a great vacation for both the humans and the doodles.
